Our Why

Because Life Isn't Always Pretty—and You Were Never Meant to Face It Alone.

If you had asked me back when Sassy Custom Creations started in 2016 what the business would eventually become, I probably wouldn't have said anything about mental health.

It started while I was on maternity leave as a little side hustle. I was making custom things for our family, creating designs for celebrations, and simply enjoying having a creative outlet. But over the years, the business grew—and so did the experiences that shaped me and the conversations I had with the people around me.

I started noticing just how many people were struggling in ways you couldn't necessarily see. People who were exhausted but still showing up. People who were overwhelmed but still taking care of everyone else. People who were hurting but didn't know how to say it. People who could laugh and joke with you one minute and be fighting their own battles behind the scenes the next.

And the more I listened, the more I realized how common that really is.

The Things We Don't Always Talk About

We are pretty good at celebrating the happy parts of life. We share the birthdays, the weddings, the new babies, the accomplishments, the vacations, and all of the moments that look good from the outside.

But life isn't only those moments.

There are also the days when getting out of bed feels like an accomplishment. There are days when you're overwhelmed and don't know how you're going to get everything done. There are days when you're struggling but still have to show up for your kids, your family, your job, or the people who depend on you.

Sometimes you're the person everyone else comes to when they need help, while you're quietly wondering who you can turn to when you need it.

And sometimes, you don't even know how to explain what you're feeling.

That's one of the reasons mental health became such an important part of this brand for me. Not because I think a shirt or a mug can fix someone's problems, but because sometimes a simple message can make someone stop and think, “I'm not the only one.”

Why We Use Humour Too

I also don't believe mental health conversations always have to be serious.

Sometimes you need an encouraging message. Sometimes you need something that reminds you to love yourself and give yourself some grace. And sometimes you need sarcasm, a little dark humour, or something that makes you laugh at the complete chaos of life.

For some people, humour is part of how they cope. It's part of how they get through the hard days. I don't want Sassy Custom Creations to pretend that everything has to be positive and inspirational all the time.

Life is messy. Healing is messy. Some days are really hard.

And sometimes, honestly, if you don't laugh, you'll cry.

There should be room for all of that.

Why the Messages Matter

The Mental Health Collection is my way of using something I already know how to do—creating—to help open the door to conversations that can sometimes feel uncomfortable.

A shirt might make someone laugh. A mug might remind someone to be kinder to themselves. A decal might give someone a little encouragement when they need it. A gift might tell a friend, without needing a long conversation, “I see you, and I'm here.”

I know these things aren't solutions. They're not meant to replace support, therapy, medication, or professional help. They're simply little reminders that can become part of someone's day.

And sometimes, a reminder is exactly what someone needs.

Our Why Is You

This is the part of our story that matters the most to me.

Our Why Is You.

It's the mom who is completely exhausted but keeps going. It's the person who smiles all day and cries when they finally get home. It's the person learning how to love themselves again. It's the person who feels like they're falling behind while everyone else seems to have it together. It's the person who is having a really hard day, and it's also the person who is finally having a really good one after a long stretch of difficult days.

It's you on the messy days, the funny days, the exciting days, and the days when you're simply doing your best.

You don't have to have everything figured out. You don't have to pretend you're okay when you're not. And you don't have to fit into someone else's idea of what strength or healing should look like.

That's what I want Sassy Custom Creations to be—a place where the good and the hard parts of life can exist together.

A place where you can find something that makes you laugh, something that celebrates you, something that reminds you to be kinder to yourself, or something that simply makes you feel a little less alone.

Because behind every order is a person, and behind every person is a story.

And every story matters.
